School Hot Water System Replacement – Salehurst School

Challenge
Salehurst School required a replacement hot water system following the failure of the existing electric water heaters. The brief was to address low water pressure, improve hygiene, increase energy efficiency, reduce operating costs, and support carbon reduction.
All works had to be completed during the school holiday period, as any disruption to hot water would affect the safe operation of the school and kitchen. This created a fixed two-week programme for removal, installation, commissioning, and full site clearance.
SOLUTION
Roselands Heating worked closely with East Sussex County Council and the design consultant to develop an efficient replacement system. Two immersion heater hot-water tanks were replaced with a single thermal store, enabling improved efficiency and system performance.
The three-phase electric immersion heaters were replaced with a Panasonic air source heat pump to maintain thermal store temperature, significantly reducing energy use and carbon emissions. The system design also removes the risk of Legionella bacterial growth.
The project was completed within the holiday period, delivered on time and within budget. The system was fully commissioned, operational, and the site was cleared before staff and pupils returned.
